Are you ready to Dig IN?

Indiana farmers and Indiana chefs joining forces for an event to celebrate Indiana food???

The folks at Dig IN invite you to "join us on August 28th as dozens of Indiana chefs, farmers, brewers, wineries and artisans descend on White River State Park to celebrate all things Indiana food! Sample dozens of signature dishes made from local product by world-class chefs. Listen to leaders in the Indiana food community speak about food issues. Then, chill in the shade to the tunes of local music acts."

Come visit Indiana's Family of Farmers at Dig IN on August 28, noon- 5 PM at White River State Park.

To get the party started a little early, we are giving away 4 tickets this week to one lucky reader. Just tell us what food says "Indiana" to you???

It really is food that has been worked hard for, beginning in the spring planting season, and then harvesting the food you planted all year long, and being able to walk out your back door like its your personal grocery and making a meal each night from local, homegrown produce. So fresh squash, corn on the cob, and fresh green beans scream Indiana!

What food-loving dietitian would ever suggest just one food?! Foods that say "Indiana" for me include persimmon pudding, Indiana sweet corn on the cob, watermelon, grilled (or every now & then fried!) pork tenderloin sandwich, fresh garden tomatoes, popcorn and the annual Dairy Bar extravaganza at the IN State Fair for milkshakes/frozen custard & grilled cheese!

TOMATOES ... Yes, this is a biased/homer post, but we just love the local tomatoes grown in The Wishard "Growing Places Indy" Slow Food Garden at White River State Park (@WhiteRiverStPrk)!

To me, Sugar Cream Pie is the quintessential Indiana food. Persimmon pudding is a close second.

There are so many wonderful Indiana foods. Summer meals are wonderful because most everything comes directly from the garden. Fresh veggies, like corn on the cob and tomatoes, and fresh meats raised locally. What a treat! thanks for the chance to enter to win free tickets! We will enjoy the event..... I could say the obvious favorite food of Indiana (corn of course). I do LOVE some good sweet corn, however there are many foods that say "Indiana" to me. The fresh veggies I find at my local farmer's market, scream INDIANA. I have never seen such bold and bright colors. My boyfriend never ate veggies, until I took him to the farmer's market. He couldn't believe the fresh taste. Another place I like to go is the local butcher. I simply love getting my food from the source. A great cut steak, says Indiana like nothing else. Simply AMAZING.
