Apple of My Eye

By Sarah Correll

It's apple season in Indiana. In fact, on many orchards, it's been apple season since mid-August. Expand your apple knowledge with these fun facts!

Johnny Appleseed was planting apples, but they weren't red delicious. He was planting apples to be made into hard cider.

Speaking of hard cider, the slogan "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" was a result of a serious apple surplus during the prohibition.

Indiana apple crop is huge this year thanks to great weather this year - and bad weather last year.

Apples are good source of fiber and Vitamin C.

Visiting an orchard can be a great way to spend a few minutes or few hours- find a listing of Indiana orchards here. Several host festivals, concert, tours and more!
